INFORMATION FROM EL CAJON POLICE SGT, LT, RADIO TRAFFIC & WITNESSES: A major intersection in El Cajon is shut down tonight following a fatal hit n run traffic collision involving a pedestrian. Someone ran the man down in the middle of heavy traffic, and witnesses tell me they were appalled that no one would stop and help, that they were just looking but continued on. The first two women I spoke to on camera told me later that they actually pulled their vehicle up to block traffic, and there were a few other people with flashlights directing traffic. Another man I spoke to just got home from a service for a friend of his (unknown if traffic related) to find another person dead in front of his house. He says people drive 60-80MPH on motorcycles and in cars, his fence was destroyed and his truck was totaled all because of people speeding on this road. There are no street lights and there is no cross walk at this t-shaped intersection. Dozens of residents came out to see the scene. The victim is described by witnesses as a middle-aged male. Medics pronounced the victim on scene due to obvious fatal trauma. Traffic division is handling the investigation and therefore an official SOT was unavailable. Road closure is on Avocado between Chase Ave and Carter St.
